Pure Joy - A Card for Mojo Monday Plus Three More Challenges

Here is my card for this week's Mojo Monday challenge. It also qualifies for three other challenges: Pile it On, Digital Tuesday and A Spoonful of Sugar.

The Mojo Monday sketch is shown below. I chose to use a narrower ribbon on the side and added some flowers in that space. Otherwise, it's pretty close.
I just found the Pile It On challenge a few weeks ago and this is my first time to participate. This challenge has it's own theme, and in addition you must combine it with at least one other challenge. Perfect for me. You know how I love to combine my challenges. :) The theme this week is to use at least three flowers. I used four - and combined it with three other challenges as already mentioned. I made the flowers with my Retro Flower and tiny daisy punches. I added rhinestone flowers to the centers.
The theme for A Spoonful of Sugar this week is Floral Fantasy. There are flowers in the image and the background paper, in addition to the punched flowers I added.
Finally, the theme for Digital Tuesday is "bling". I got pleny o' bling goin' on - stickles on the girl's headband and butterfly, glitter on her skirt, rhinestones in the centers of the flowers in the image, rhinestones on the butterfly's body and flower shaped rhinestones in the punched flowers. The image is another from my favorite digital illustrator Maurie at Mo's Digital Pencil. This image is called Soakin' Up the Joy and is available as a freebie on Mo's blog. I just love this image. She looks so happy!
Thanks for stopping by. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Mojo Monday 97 and Simon Says Challenge

I have another two-fer today - Mojo Monday and Simon Says Challenges.

I chose the Happy Hopper image called Bunny Bath for this card. My friend Kari sent this image in for the House Mouse and Friends Merry Go Round swap that I am currently hosting. I thought the image fit the sketch for Mojo Monday perfectly. The sketch is shown below. Since I am using this card for a swap, I decided to stick with an A2 size. I think a 5x7 might have been a better fit for the size of the image. I just have a really hard time making A2 cards anymore. They seem so tiny. :)
I also thought this image was perfect for the Simon Says Challenge this week, which is distressing. Had I stamped this image myself, I would have used kraft cardstock to fit with the rest of the card. However, since it was stamped on white, I used Vintage Photo Distress ink to help blend it in better. I also tore the top edge of the paisley paper, roughed it up and edged it with the Distress ink. Finally, I sanded the edges of the scalloped circle and hit it with a little distress ink as well. In addition, the papers I used have a distresed look. Distressed/shabby used to be my usual style for cards, but I don't much of it anymore. It was fun to use my old techniques again.
Supplies
Stamps: Happy Hopper - Bunny Bath (Stampabilities); sentiment (Technique Tuesday)
Paper: Kraft cardstock and red cardstock (unknown); paisley DP(Creative Imaginations); striped DP (no-name giant Costco pack)
Embellishments: Circle, scalloped circle and long rectangle Nestabilities (Spellbinder); metal photo corner (Oriental Trading); Tim Holtz Vintage Photo Distress Ink (Ranger); buttons, twine
Technique: Prismacolor pencils blended with mineral spirits; distressing
Finished card size: A2 (4 1/4 x 5 1/2)

Christmas Mojo

I can't believe it's been almost a week since I've posted a card! I've just been super busy and the weather here has been so beautiful that when I do have some extra time, I want to be out enjoying it. I'm back with another Christmas card that fits four challenges - well actually five if you count Susan's Christmas in July challenge on the CK message board. The other four are: Mojo Monday, Cute Card Thursday, Cupcake Craft Challenge and Digital Tuesday Challenge. The latter three are all Christmas theme challenges, and the Mojo sketch fit my image perfectly. It's shown at the bottom of this post.

I've been following the Digital Tuesday challenge blog for awhile, but this is my first time to submit a card. I am very new to using digital stamps, but so far I am really enjoying it. The image I chose is called "Not Even a Mouse" and it's from Mo's Digital Pencil. Maurie (Mo) has just recently started creating and selling digital illustrations. I just happened on her blog a week or so ago through a link on another blog that I follow, and I fell in love with her work. All of her illustrations have tons of charm and personality.

Above is a close up of the image. I colored it with Prismacolor pencils blended with mineral spirits.
Thanks for stopping by. I hope it doesn't take me a whole week to make another card!
Supplies
Image: Not Even a Mouse (Mo's Digital Pencil)
Paper: Pink cardstock (Bazzill); green cardstock (DCWV); DP - Christmas Stack (DCWV)
Embellishments: Circle and scalloped circle Nestabilities (Spellbinder); border punch (Fiskars); ribbon, buttons
Technique: Prismacolor pencils blended with mineral spirits; paper piercing; digital art

Mojo Monday Challenge 91 - Father's Day Card

I needed to get a card made for my step dad for Father's Day. My parents divorced when I was very young, and although I stayed close to my dad, my step dad, Paul, has always been an important part of my life. Even more so now since my father passed away last year.

I chose to use the Grape Dreams image because Paul grows his own grapes and makes several varieties of wine. He always likes cards with grapes or wine images on them. To help make the card more masculine, I chose darker colors, more masculine papers and distressing. I used my Script Cuttlebug folder to emboss the paper on the right side of the card.

For the layout, I used this week's Mojo Monday sketch, which is shown below. I rotated it to make it short and wide rather than tall and thin. I also used a flower instead of the oval where the sentiment is shown in the sketch. I'll put the sentiment on the inside of the card. I usually use poems or quotes about fatherhood for Father's Day cards and that would not have fit in the small space left.
Supplies
Stamp: House Mouse - Grape Dreams (Stampabilities)
Ink: Black (unknown); Vintage Photo and Antique Linen Distress Ink (Ranger)
Paper: Brown cardstock (Paper Studio); DP (Costco)
Embellishments: Jute rick-rack (unknown); flowers (Prima); square brad (Spare Parts - Paper Studio); script embossing folder (Cuttlebug)
Technique: Prismacolor pencils blended with mineral spirits
Finished card size: 4" x 9"

Flutter Anya - A Four Challenge Card

What a week!! I have been beyond busy this week at work and at home. I'm having a hard time getting in my creative time. To top it off, I have to work tomorrow. Yuck! So it's been even more important to try to combine challenges whenever I can this week. I managed four again with this one - Roses on Paper, Mojo Monday, A Spoon Full of Sugar and Cute Card Thursday. Yea!!

Roses on Paper is not a challenge I do often. I think I've only done it twice before. The current challenge is a color challenge - pink, green and yellow. In addition to meeting the challenge theme, participants are required to stamps from specific lines - Magnolia, Sarah Kay, Rachelle Anne Miller, The Greeting Farm or Alota. For the image I chose one of my new stamps from The Greeting Farm - Flutter Anya. I chose the Basic Grey Two Scoops paper as my starting point for the colors. That particular paper does have all those colors. Unfortunately, in the piece I cut, the yellow got covered up by the image.

For my layout I used this week's Mojo Monday sketch, which is pictured below. I had to move my circle piece to the left so it wasn't on top of Anya's head. I probably should have made the card a 5x7 to give myself more vertical space, but I always figure these things out after I have everything cut and half of it glued down. However, in my defense, one of the DT members moved her circle to the left too, so I think I'm okay. :)

The theme for this week's A Spoon Full of Sugar challenge is butterflies. Of course the little cutie Anya is a butterfly (although I thought she was a fairy when I ordered her). I also added a butterfly embellishment, which I made with my Spellbinder butterfly die and some gems.

The fourth and final challenge for this card is Cute Card Thursday. The theme for that challenge is quotations. I chose one of my favorite butterfly quotes to go with the theme - "The butterfly counts not months but moments, and has time enough." It's kind of an elegant sounding quote for such a whimsical card, but I like it anyway. I printed the quote on the computer and cut it out with my circle Nesties.

Thanks for stopping by. I guess I better get some sleep so I'll be nice and refreshed for my Saturday at work. Yippee...Have a great weekend!

Supplies
Stamp: Flutter Anya (The Greeting Farm); quote is computer generated
Ink: Onyx Black (VersaFine); Rouge Chalk Ink (Colorbox)
Paper: Light pink cardstock (unknown); yellow cardstock (Archiver's); dark pink cardstock (Club Scrap); DP - Two Scoops (Basic Grey)
Embellishments: circle, scalloped circle, square and scalloped square Nestabilities (Spellbinder); butterfly die (Spellbinder); clear and pink gems (unknown); clear flower gems (Jesse James Dress it Up)
Technique: Prismacolor pencils blended with mineral spirits
Finished card size: 6" square

Make a Wish

I have mentioned several times that I love doing the challenge blogs. I could happily spend my days making cards and doing challenges. But I also must work and take care of my family, so I can only do so many challenges in a week. This week I got lucky - I managed to do four of them with this one card - House Mouse and Friends, Mojo Monday, Cupcake Craft Challenge and Simon Says Stamp Challenge.

The theme for this week's House Mouse and Friends Challenge is birthday. There are so many great House Mouse, Happy Hopper and Gruffies stamps with a birthday theme, that one was kind of tough to choose for. I chose Make a Wish - it's super cute, and it's small enough to fit the sketch I was using.

This week's Mojo Monday sketch is below. I don't think there has been a Mojo Monday sketch that I didn't like, This one is very versatile and super simple to work with. I think I will definitely use it again.
My third challenge for this card is the Cupcake Craft Challenge. The theme for this challenge is called "2-2-2". We were to use two colors (plus a neutral), two ribbons and two shapes. Technically, I don't know if I met the two colors or not. I mainly used green and blue, but I had to use a couple other colors for the mice :). For the ribbon I used a wide green ribbon and a more narrow blue and green ribbon in the center. I also created a bow with both. The two shapes are rectangles and circles.

The final challenge is Simon Says Stamp, which was just posted today. The theme this week is animals. That was probably the easiest of the challenges to meet.

Thanks for stopping by!

Supplies
Stamps: Make a Wish (Stampabilities); Sentiment (My Sentiments Exactly)
Paper: Cardstock (DCWV); DP - Wild Asparagus (My Mind's Eye)
Embellishments: Circle and scalloped circle Nestabilities (Spellbinders); ribbon (unknown); blue brads (unknown)
Technique: Prismacolor pencils blended with mineral spirits

Magnolia Mojo

I made this card with sweet Tilda for this week's Mojo Monday sketch. I colored this image some time ago and had planned to use it for a different challenge that I never got around to doing. When I saw this week's sketch, I thought it fit right in.

As you can see from the sketch, which I posted below, I flip-flopped the images around. I thought they fit together better that way. I also moved them down somewhat so that I could put the ribbon and bow above the sentiment. To fill the space above Tilda, I made the little flower embellishments. They are just two small flower punches put together with an antique copper brad. If you squint a little, they look kinda like sunflowers. :)
One thing that didn't quite turn out like I planned is the sentiment. I colored in the borders with marker, then I used my Souffle pen to make the white dots. I guess it picked up some of the red marker so they really look more pink. It wasn't bad enough to make me do it over though.
Thanks for taking a look. I'm sure I'll be back with another card in a day or two. In the meantime, check out the other great cards on the Mojo Monday blog. It's probably my favorite place for inspirational sketches.

Sleeping with Strawberries

Time for a another little mousie and some mojo! This card is doing double challenge duty for this week's House Mouse and Friends Monday Challenge and the Mojo Monday sketch challenge.

The theme for the House Mouse and Friends Monday Challenge is "spring". It was hard to pick an image for this one because I have so many that can be used for the theme. It finally came down to this one and Gruffies Digging Up Dirt. I finally decided on this one because I wanted to use the pink and red color combo and I thought it went well with that. I have my little Gruffies all colored though, so I may use them on another card sometime soon.
The sketch for this week's Mojo Monday challenge is shown above. I don't think they have ever had a sketch for this challenge that I didn't like. I stuck pretty close to the sketch, except for putting the sentiment in the embellishment part in the upper left corner instead of across the scallop piece. I also see now that my scallop trim piece doesn't go all the way across - oopsie. I guess I wasn't paying very good attention there. :)
Thanks for stopping by!
Supplies
Stamps: Sleeping with Strawberries (House Mouse - Stampabilities); How Sweet (Studio G)
Paper: All cardstock and DP - Spring Stacks (DCWV)
Embellishments: Ribbon (Target); Circle punch (Creative Memories); Scallop Circle punch (Hobby Lobby); Scallop border punches (Fiskars)

Happy Birthday Sarah! - Mojo Monday Sketch #82

Here is my card for this week's Mojo Monday sketch. This was a super simple sketch to do, but once again, very versatile. I just love the Mojo sketches. The sketch is at the bottom of this post. I pretty much followed it to the letter this time.

I'm going to give this card to my cousin Sarah who has a birthday coming up next week. Her birthday is two days before mine and she'll be 14. There is quite an age difference (I'm going to be 45). My aunt adopted Sarah from China when she was just about my age. She's a great kid - very smart, beautiful and talented. When she was younger, she won many awards in gymnastics, and she is one of only four freshmen who will be on the varsity cheerleading squad next year. I'm very proud of her.

I chose another of my favorite House Mouse images for this card. I think Mudpie looks so cute passed out on top. I know how he feels. :) I made the little cupcake embellishment with my brand new Martha Stewart cupcake punch. I added Stickles to the top of the cupcake and candles in the image and on the top of the punched cupcake. I'm not sure how well they show up in my picture. The little cherry on top of the punched cupcake is tiny Jolee's embellishment.
Supplies
Stamp: Birthday Cupcake (House Mouse - Stampabilities)
Paper: Pink cardstock (DCWV); green cardstock (Bazzill); DP - Spring Stack (DCWV)
Embellishments: Ribbon (unknown); cupcake punch (Martha Stewart); scalloped border punch (Fiskars); circle punch (Creative Memories); scallop circle punch (Hobby Lobby); cherry (Jolee's); glitter glue (Stickles)
Technique: Prismacolor pencils blended with turpenoid
Finished size: 5" x 7"

Happy Easter!

Well, it turns out I just couldn't stay away from my craft room after all. Everybody else is watching a movie I've already seen, so I decided to do a card for this week's Mojo Monday sketch challenge. I just don't feel right if I don't do my Mojo Monday card. I already had this image colored, so it didn't take long to put it together.

The sketch for this week is below. I really like the random look of this one. I went a little brighter than my usual style with this one. The paper is from this year's DCWV Spring Stack. I made the mistake of going to JoAnn last week and I just can't say no to those stacks when they are on sale.
Thanks for stopping by. I hope everyone has a wonderful Easter!

Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge #79

Whew! Finally got my Mojo Monday card done. I rarely miss doing the Mojo sketch. They are always great layouts. Apparently I am not the only one who thinks so. So far 209 other people have done the sketch challenge this week! This week's sketch is fairly simple, but very versatile. I really like it and I'm sure you'll be seeing this layout again in the future.

Once again, I opted to try a different color combination from my usuals. I have been afraid to use yellow and black together because I think it will just look like a big bumblebee, but I decided to try it anyway. I did use some white in there too and also used a more muted shade of yellow. I like it. I also decided to pull out one of my favorite stamps that I haven't use for a long, long time. I guess I've been too busy playing with my mice, bunnies and hedgehogs. :)

I'm not sure it's the scanner or what, but my cards look fine in person, then when I post them everything looks crooked. My friend Patti gave me some tips for taking pictures and also told me how to make a light box that I can take pictures in. I got the supplies, but haven't had time to put it together yet. Hopefully, when I get that stuff figured out, my pictures will start looking like they are supposed to.

Thanks for checking out my latest creation! Hope you'll stop by again soon.

Stamps: Tulip and sentiment (both Hero Arts)
Ink: Onyx Black (VersaFine)
Paper: White cardstock (Georgia Pacific); yellow cardstock (Bazzill); black cardstock (unknown); DP - scrap
Embellishments: Ribbon (unknown); embossed diamonds border punch (Martha Stewart)

Mojo Monday 78 and Cupcake Craft Challenge 31

I really enjoy participating in the various challenge blogs, but with working full time and being mom to a very active five-year-old, I don't have time to do all of the ones I like. It's great when I can combine a couple. For this card, I used the sketch from this week's Mojo Monday Challenge and the Cupcake Craft Challenge, which was to use brown with one other color - pink, blue or green. Obviously, I chose pink. :)

I chose one of my new Magnolia stamps for this card - Tilda Blowing Hearts. I must confess that when I first saw these images, I did not like them. But those cute little kids with no faces kind of grew on me. I am really enjoying working with them now. I put some Stickles on her little hearts and wings. I'm not sure how well it shows up in the picture.
I did make a couple of variations to the sketch. I moved the vertical panel from the left to the right side. On the left it looked like Tilda was blowing her hearts off the card. That variation was intentional. The other one wasn't. For some reason, I had it in my head that the ribbon was tied on the top of the center horizontal panel. It wasn't until I scanned the card and then looked at the sketch again that I realized it was on the bottom. Ooops - again.
Thanks for taking a look. Please be sure to stop by Mojo Monday and Cupcake Craft challenge blogs to see all the great cards submitted this week.
Supplies
Stamps: Tilda Blowing Hearts (Magnolia); Sentiment (Hero Arts)
Ink: Onyx Black (VersaFine); Pink Pastel (ColorBox Chalk Ink)
Paper: Cardstock (Bazzill; DCWV); DP - Bohemia (My Mind's Eye)
Embellishments: ribbon, Prima flowers, button, brad, border punches
Technique: Prismacolor pencils blended with turpenoid

If you enjoy sketch challenges, or are just looking for inspiration for your own cards, you should check it out.

This was a very simple, easy card. No coloring or fancy techniques. I like those kind sometimes. I really enjoyed this sketch and will be using it again.

Stamps: Inkadinkado
Ink: Vintage Sepia (VersaFine)
Paper: Cardstock (Archivers, Bazzill); DP - No clue - from one of those giant packs at Costco

Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge #76

Here is my card for this week's Mojo Monday sketch challenge. I wanted to do something a little different for me so I chose a Bella. I don't actually own any Bella stamps. I received this one in an image swap. Bellas aren't my usual style, but there are a few I like - inlcuding this one.

There's not much to say about this card. It's just a simple, fun card. Thanks for checking it out.

Supplies
Stamps: Partygirlabella (Stamping Bella); Let's Party (Studio G)
Paper: Blue and pink cardstock (unknown); DP - The Paper Studio (Hobby Lobby)
Embellishments: ribbon (Target); tab punch; blue brad
Technique: Prismacolor pencils blended with turpenoid

Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge #75

I made this card for this week's Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge. That is one of my favorite challenge blogs and I try to do the challenge every week. So many new layouts to try. I stayed pretty true to the sketch, except that it showed small circular embellishments along the right side of the image - like brads or flowers. My original idea was to use pearls, but I wanted to get it done tonight and was running out of time so I subbed some ribbon. I may end up using this layout (or a slightly simpler version) for a swap I'm in. If I do that, then I may add the pearls and post it again. I also think it would look awesome with one of those lacey scallop borders instead of the plain scallop. I made a no-buy pledge with a friend this month, but come March 1st - look out. I have to have one of those border punches!

Supplies
Stamp: Hydrangea (Anna Griffin); Le London Script (Stampabilities)
Ink: Sepia (Ranger Archival Ink - I can't find my VersaFine - waaahhh!!)
Paper: Cream, brown and pink cardstock; DP - Wild Asparagus (My Mind's Eye)
Embellishments: Ribbon, Tapestry embossing folder (Cuttlebug)
Techniques: Prismacolor pencils blended with Gamsol; masking

Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge #74

Two cards in one day - I'm on a roll!! Here's my card for this week's Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge. I missed last week and was bummed because I really liked the sketch. I'm going to keep it in mind for later.

The daisy image was given to me by my friend Susan. She got it from an individual who makes and sells her own stamps on E-bay. I used two of my Cuttlebug embossing folders for backgrounds - Stylized Flowers (red) and Swiss Dots (green). I also changed the sketch slightly. Instead of the circular sentiment thingie, I put my big flower down below the square slightly and I moved the ribbon to the top of the area instead of the bottom. I still think it looks enough like the sketch to qualify though.

Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge #72

Well, I FINALLY got my card done for this week's Mojo Monday sketch challenge. This card just wasn't coming together for me, but I think I finally came up with something that will do. Most importantly, my mother will love it. It's for her birthday and she loves anything I make and anything with daisies on it. This card is much more "fussy" than my usual style, which is fairly clean and simple. it was fun doing all the layers though. These challenges are great for making me step outside my box.

The yellow paper with red dots is actually the same yellow cardstock as the base, which I ran through my Big Kick with the Swiss Dots Cuttlebug embossing folder. I hit each of the dots with a red marker. The daisies and the Happy Birthday piece are pop-dotted, which is a little difficult to see in the scan.

Supplies:
Stamps: Gerber Daisy (Rubber Stampede); Sentiment (My Sentiments Exactly)
Paper: Yellow and red cardstock (Hobby Lobby); DP (My Mind's Eye - Front Porch collection)
Ink: Vintage Sepia (VersaFine)
Embellishments: Swiss Dots embossing folder (Cuttlebug); Circle, scallop circle and long rectangle Nestabilities (Spellbinder); ribbon and button
Technique: Prisma colored pencil blended with Gamsol

Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge #71

Here is my card for this week's Mojo Monday challenge. Can you say purple? :) I knew I wanted to use this image, but wasn't sure if wanted to make the hydrangea pink, blue or purple. Since I am also challenging myself to use paper and other items from my scraps whenever possible, I chose purple. I would have had to cut new pieces of paper for the other colors.

The hydrangea stamp is from Anna Griffin. I colored it with Prisma colored pencils blended with gamsol. the sentiment stamp is from Club Scrap. The "Day" in the sentiment really is like that - I didn't make a boo boo on my stamping. If you have seen many Club Scrap images you probably know that they are often kind of funky. It's stamped with purple Colorbox pigment ink and heat embossed. The DP on the left side of the card is from my scraps. I was stuck for one to use on the right side. All my other purple papers are kind of bright and cutesy so thoey didn't go with this one. To solve that little dilemma, I embossed a piece of light purple cardstock with my Tapestry Cuttlebug folder and highlighted the raised areas with Wisteria Colorbox Chalk Ink. I like the way it turned out and I think it goes well with the other paper. I finished it off with an organza ribbon - also from my stash.

Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge #70

I'm baaaacckk!!! We got home Monday evening, but tonight was the first chance I had to get into my craft room. I missed it. A LOT.

I have been checking out the Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge for awhile now, but this is the first time I've ever tried the challenge. What I ended up with was nothing like the idea I started with in my head. I was originally going to use a House Mouse images, but I decided that this cute flamingo was the perfect image for the sketch. I have no clue who makes this stamp. It was given to me by my dear friend Susan. So Susan if you are reading this, tell me who makes this stamp - please. :) By the way, you should check out Susan's blog sometime. She is super creative and does some beautiful work.

I colored the flamingo with Prisma colored pencil blended with gamsol. The background is the Cuttlebug Floral Fantasy folder run through my Big Kick. I also used my Big Kick to cut the scallop circle (Spellbinders Nestabilities) and the little ribbon slide (Cuttlebug). The quote stamp and all cardstock is Club Scrap. The ribbon is from my stash.
